Waterberg Plateau Park

 
  Size:  405,49 km2

Description:

Waterberg is situated 64 km east of Otjiwarongo. The plateau is 64 km in length and has an average width of 16 km. The sandstone formation and plateau, the rara Cape vulture and dinasaur footprints are some of the intersesting attractions of the park. A police station built at the turn of the 19th century has successfully been converted into a stylish restaurant.

 

Flora and Fauna:

The area is dominated by dry, broad-leaf woodland and thorn-bush savannah. The only breeding colony of Cape vultures is located here. Other birdlife of note includes Bradfield's hornbill, the mouse-coloured flycatcher, Hartlaub's francolin and Alpine swift, while animals of note include sable antelope, black and white rhino, tsessebe, roan antelope and dwarf and rock pythons.
